The popular bible story of Naaman the Captain of the Aramean soldiers isn’t new, but for those who do not know it, let me quickly summarize. Naaman was a captain and quite influential in Aram, but he was also sick with Leprosy. This condition bothered him and he couldn’t be healed until a servant girl whom he had captured in Israel told him about prophet Elisha, the prophet eventually healed Naaman of his leprosy. With all his wealth and status, he had a problem no one in his country could help him solve, money also couldn’t help him except the information from a servant girl. If Naaman had looked down on the girl as poor, stupid, unintelligent, all his life he probably would have been known as the leprous captain. This simple story shows how everyone is important, most times we desire only the friendship of the wealthy, oh if I could only know this billionaire or that billionaire then my life wouldn’t be the same, Naaman knew all the wealthy people but none could help him; when you look down on certain people or class, you could miss out on certain information.
Sometimes, the little help rendered to others irrespective of who they are could come back to benefit you years later, another story to illustrate this is that of Jonathan and David. Jonathan was prince in Israel, next in line to the throne but he chose to be friends with David the shepherd boy; he could have been best friends with the children of the nobles, the sons of other kings but he knew everyone was important and he chose David as his friend; years down the line, Jonathan and his father Saul die and David becomes king, because of his friendship with Jonathan, he would later extend that gratitude to Jonathans son (who was a cripple) by making him dine with the king, a seat meant for nobles . If Jonathan had looked down on David, would his son have enjoyed dinning with the king of Israel years after? No.
No one is less important in life, every one has something to offer, remember this, if you are stuck in life, look around you, who are you looking down on, they might just hold the key to your breakthrough.
